The Zen Teachings of Jesus

BookText : The Zen Teachings of Jesus, by Kenneth S. Leong
Facilitators: Diana Beardsley of Gardener's House of Prayer and Carol Husbands

“I left Jesus to search for the Tao when I was sixteen,“ writes Kenneth S. Leong. “Now I am forty and realize that I could have found the Tao in Jesus.” This class will explore how Zen philosophy parallels the core message of the Gospel. It is the spiritual side of Zen, the art of trusting and accepting life, which coincides with the core of the Gospel message. For power, dogma and doctrine were not Jesus’ passion, but the mystery of life and the possibility of love.

Sometimes people have overlooked the joy, the humor and the depth of Jesus’ teachings—often because they were not open to the scripture’s power to transform our lives. Brief weekly readings with questions will be assigned as homework and time set aside in class to discuss them. In keeping with the contemplative path of both traditions, time is reserved during each class for meditation/contemplative prayer. This is a one-semester course.

Quiet Garden Days: A Ministry of Hospitality and Prayer

SPRING QUIET GARDEN DAY
APRIL 11, 2010, 3:00-5:00 PM

"But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 (NIV)

COME! You are invited for a day of quiet contemplation in the garden with the community of Gardener’s House of Prayer. This is a time for renewal — starting where you are and deepening your connection with God. Following is a time for reflection and optional sharing.

A Quiet Garden Day is an opportunity to set aside time to rest and pray, a time of stillness and reflection, an oasis of withdrawal and meeting, of spiritual refreshment and support, an area of beauty and peacefulness dedicated to quiet prayer and solitude. All are welcome: all faith traditions, lay persons and clergy. Come!
